The Bridge, under its “Rural Economic Enhancement Programme” (REEP) selected Gajadharpur, Gopmamau, Sainti, Tandiyavan blocks/villages, District Hardoi, where farmers were motivated to form a co-operative society for selling their wheat/rice produce collectively. On the initiative of this co-operative society, Food Corporation of India (FCI) established its procurement centre in Gajadharpur village itself, enabling farmers to sell their wheat without going very far.
This helped farmers earn Rs. 70.00 to 100.00 per quintal more, compared to earlier years. In addition, establishment of procurement centre has provided employment to 5 people of the village.
The success of this pilot project, motivated many more farmers from various other villages to have similar wheat procurement centres in their villages. Consequently, farmers forming groups, of many villages of District Barabanki, UP, approached the Food Corporation Of India for opening wheat procurement centre in their villages:
