Establishment Of “The Bridge Help Centre”

The first “BRIDGE HELP CENTRE” has been established at a slum settlement located at Rangpuri Pahari, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. The Help Centre has been established with the following broad objectives:

To provide proper atmosphere for studies and guidance to school going children of economically disadvantaged group living in such areas

To enable students to complete their school home work on regular basis and to prepare in advance

To prepare students for Tests\Exams in their own schools,

To identify meritorious students and prepare them for competitive tests for admissions in Jawahar Navodaya Vidhalayas and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Schools (Govt. Schools With Full Financial Support, Hostel Etc), Kendriya Vidhayalayas, award of scholarships, other competitive exams, to assist them in filling up forms, interacting with their schools on their behalf etc.

To inculcate sense of discipline and civic sense, necessity & importance of modern education, cleanliness and personal hygiene, to motivate them to continue their education/studies and excel in their performance

To provide basic computer/IT theoretical as well as practical knowledge

Toassist parents of such students as well as others in linking with various social, economic and welfare schemes of the Govt.

To begin with only those children, especially girls, who are regularly attending any school for at least one year, have been/are being admitted in our centre. However, as we get resources, this facility will be expanded. In addition, to generate a sense of participation and stake amongst parents of children, a One Time Registration Fee of Rs. 250.00 and a monthly contribution of Rs. 50.00 per child will be charged. This contribution will be utilized for creating facilities at the centre.

All students at the centre are provided Calcium and Vitamin-C tablets daily and seasonal fruits occasionally. In due course of time, it is planed that all students will be provided free medical check-ups at an acceptable frequency.

It may not be out of place to mention that 3 meritorious girl students were assisted for taking entrance exam for admission in Jawahar Navodaya Vidhalaya School (a fully supported residential school by Central Govt.). We take pride in the fact that in a short duration of 3 months, number of school going girls attending our Help centre has grown from 6 to 19.

The Help Centre, fully supported by our own funding and resources, is presently running from a rented accommodation in the slum and is managed by 2 persons.
